Why should you consider staying in Kleinmond?

Kleinmond, situated in the ‘Heart of the Cape Fynbos floral kingdom’ in the Overberg region of the Western Cape, South Africa; is located within the world-renowned Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve. Interestingly, there are more than 1500 different plant species within the reserve, 150 of which are endemic, meaning they aren’t found anywhere else in the world. So, if this tickles your fancy, a visit is a must for you!

With a stunning ‘Blue Flag’ Beach, Hiking Trails for the whole family, a challenging 9-hole Golf Course, and an abundance of Fauna and Flora, it’s the perfect location for your getaway.

Located about an hour and fifteen minutes’ drive away from Cape Town International Airport (along the scenic R44 (the Garden route)), it’s neighboured by popular towns including Betty’s Bay and Hermanus.

If this isn’t reason enough to book your stay with us, Kleinmond’s historical background is rich with stories of shipwrecks, pirates, runaway slaves, cattle-thieves, and strandlopers. Furthermore, the area from the Bot River Vlei to Gordon’s Bay, and inland to the Groenlandberg; is considered of such ecological significance, that in November 1998 it became the first UNESCO-declared Biosphere Reserve in Southern Africa. What does this mean, you may ask? It means that the whole area is to be managed according to an international renowned standard aimed at combing conservation, the sustainable use of natural resources, and wise development.

Your stay at Footprints in Kleinmond begins with a personal welcome from Lindie or Maritz Laubscher. On arrival, one of them will personally meet you, show you to your room or self-catering unit, hand over your keys, and ensure you are comfortably settled in while answering any questions you may have. Check-in is from 14:00 and check-out is before 10:00, with luggage drop-off available for early arrivals and late departures.

Yes, definitely. Footprints in Kleinmond can accommodate up to 23 guests, depending on your group’s preferred sleeping and bathroom arrangements:

  • Up to 23 guests if beds and bathrooms are shared where needed.
  • Up to 17 guests if no guests share a bed.
  • Up to 11 guests if every guest prefers a private room.
  • Up to 8 guests if every guest requires a private bathroom.

Our accommodation includes 11 rooms in total: three elegant en-suite rooms in the main house, Family Tides sleeping 5, and Ocean Oasis and Sandy Toes sleeping 6 each.

Winter is one of the most beautiful times to visit Kleinmond. You can watch Southern Right Whales from shore, walk the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve trails after the rains when fynbos is at its richest, visit the African Penguin colony at Stony Point in Betty’s Bay, explore Harold Porter National Botanical Garden’s waterfalls and amber pools, and enjoy cool-climate wines at Benguela Cove, Beaumont, and Wildekrans. Storm-watching from inside our cosy units is a guest favourite.
